When we stood up for ourselves
( One of those girls who stood up for the draconian hostel and college rules which kept them tied into hostel and institutional walls. Though considered mature citizens of the country capable enough to cast a vote, they were not considered capable to take their own responsibility and be out after a certain time, on certain dates as if a black spell would be cast on them. And meanwhile all others could be out making them the caged ones.)
so 15th September 2018 will be celebrated as independence day. Yes you read it right, it is 15th September 2018. This is not a story of some country getting freedom from colonialism. This is a story of some courageous girls who fought for their rights and freedom which is naturally gifted to all and should not be asked from anyone.
You remember about Gandhiji right? The one who set the examples of victory without blood shedding. The one who gave us all the lesson of nonviolence and truth. I will say these girls followed the steps of Mahatma and so the silence roared. Anyway we all are born with our freedom and rights to live our lives. Everything on this Earth is gifted with this beauty.
Nobody can order a seed to germinate or not. The seed just grows you know, when it gets the environment which it needs. And you should also keep in mind that not all the seeds do germinate, they just remain dormant. I hope this example will make you think a little. That for every other individual freedom differse and their itself lies the challenge of keeping everyone free. Free of discrimination, free of abuse, free of worldly problems such as poverty, hunger, unemployment, terrorism and some more. But let's see what these girls did for their freedom.
These girls were finally tired of being caught up within four walls and decided to ask for what was always theirs 'the freedom’. Trust me this was not easy and still you can not say what is there in the future. But let's celebrate the little of the freedom they have achieved.
It all started with a thought that now we need to rise for our own cause. This was pretty like now or never and to the surprise of the almighty maximum of the girls stood firm for their cause. It was clear to all that it will be a silent protest, they are not doing anything wrong and so should not be afraid of the consequences as it will only be positive and for the betterment. In this battle of two days the time came when some of them were afraid and losing hopes but thanks to the maturity shown by others who always were ready with the next plan of action and optimism to the top of all.
For two days they were not aware of food and sleep. Even the chilling breezes of night when all the girls were out on the ground were soothing them by saying that morning awaits a blissful surprise for all. I can not explain all the details of it which I also want to but let's be happy and optimistic I will say….
When your motto is clear and stand is for the righteousness of all never turn back. Keep marching ahead and most important of all never even dare to negotiate and compromise. You will only regret it after everything that this could have been better. So I am proud of these courageous girls who fought bravely and showed the power of education when question was raised about what this silent protest is going to provide them or haven't they grown up and learned enough not to question the rules which were there for them even before them being there.
Cheers to these girls and cheers to their bravery. Hip hip… hurray!!....
