Corruption as I saw it... (Some thoughts gathered)

I thought about various beginnings to start my speech like a quote, a story about honesty and truthfulness or something catchy to off course gain your attention. But it is necessary when the topic itself is tremendously catchy.

When I first looked at this topic “Eradicate corruption, build a new India” the instant question that came to mind was why corruption? Why not eradicate poverty or a bad education system but only corruption in the process of building a new India.

So what is corruption?

One definition I got is 'Abuse of public office or position of trust for private gain’. My fellow participants might focus their speech on this definition and talk about scams and scandals like 2G spectrum fraud, coal case, vyapam ghotala and many more.

The other definition which got flashed o is that corruption is dishonest, immoral and illegal behavior or activities. So I thought why not choose the road not taken and that's why my speech is about this aspect of corruption. If we look around for illegal, immoral activities then all the crimes are covered by these. Even those which have no direct connection with bribes and black money. It means corruption is not only a political and economical issue but also a social, cultural, technological, environmental and yes a historical issue. It becomes the basis of all other problems India faces like hunger, poverty, poor education, famine, natural disasters, degrading environment, sexual harassment, mob lynching, delay or no implementation of government policies, malnourished children….

How come we don't realise that these are all fruits of corruption.

Don't you think it is because of corruption that years after years we are hearing that India is going to be better but still we are only talking and dreaming about a new developed nation. A sovereign,  socialist, secular, democratic, republic India and justice liberty equality fraternity to all its citizens. Oh Yes we think we got such india with independence and Constitution but no we are only trying….

It may be possible that politicians, bureaucrats and judiciary members be corrupt but not all of them. We cannot blame the whole system for the wrong deeds of a few people. It is the government and people of the government that today we have prevention of corruption act, central vigilance commission, the lokpal and lokayuktas, right to information act. Me sharing my thoughts is also because of the government's idea of celebrating vigilance awareness week. It shows that not everything is corrupt.

Let's say they are corrupt then what are we doing? Just sitting idle and enjoying this program. How many of us call a child helpline number when we see a begging child, how many of us have a voter ID, do we even know the policies and schemes for a graduate student… I see clueless faces here…

we need to check upon our morals and duties first, with that itself things will get much better.

Morals may have diminished a little but hope still exists.

We the youth of India are the hope of this nation. With the right approach and optimistic mindset corruption can be eradicated and then it will be a story to be told. I quote dr a p j abdul kalam “when there is righteousness in heart, there is beauty in character, when there is beauty in character, there is harmony in home, when there is harmony at home there will be order in nation.”
